Drawer Width Calculator
Calculate perfect drawer panel width based on opening space, slides, and side panels
Measurement Data
Formula:
Drawer Width = Opening Width – (Slides × 2) – (Side Panels × 2)
Why ×2? Slides and side panels are installed on both sides of the drawer
Perfect Front/Back Panel Width:
0 in
How it works:
- The calculator determines the optimal width for your drawer’s front and back panels
- It subtracts the space occupied by slides and side panels on both sides
- This ensures a perfect fit within your cabinet opening

Important Notes
- Precision Matters: Always measure your cabinet opening at multiple points. Cabinets may not be perfectly square.
- Slide Clearance: Most slides require 1/16″ to 1/8″ (1.5-3mm) of clearance on each side for smooth operation.
- Material Considerations: When using thicker materials (like 3/4″ plywood), account for the additional space occupied by the side panels.
- Test Fit: Always do a test fit before final assembly. Make adjustments as needed for your specific hardware.
